My interest in Complementary Therapies began some 14 years ago whilst working as a Quality Engineer in my home town in the heart of Ireland. My first steps began in 2001 with the discovery of Reiki. I had the pleasure of practising this gentle therapy for many years.
Following a change in work circumstances, I moved to South Wales in 2003. It was during my settling-in period that I first discovered Reflexology. I was looking for a therapy to help me find some balance as I was experiencing lots of changes in my life. After just a couple of sessions I was sleeping much better, my overall mood was more positive, my skin became clear again and I felt re-energised.
In the summer of 2006 I enrolled at the excellent Inspira Academy of Reflexology & Reiki in Dinas Powys, and I was shocked (and slightly bewildered!) about how much work was before me. The course duration was 12 months and included an in-depth study of anatomy & physiology, many hours of perfecting the techniques involved, discovering its place in both our clinical and therapeutic world, internal and external examinations, plus carrying out and submitting a whopping 100 case studies to boot! At the time, this was the most stringent reflexology course in the UK and boy did I feel it!
I was still working full-time and spent most of my free time studying and practising. Although tough at times, I knew that I was being taught at a very high level and that upon completion of this course my qualification would become my professional benchmark. I left Inspira in 2007 with distinction in hand. I have truly never looked back.
